Becca Cruger - Damsel of Distressed - is a mixed media artist and muralist who believes in using art as a conduit to create a vibrant community and empower others.
She finds beauty in the forgotten, the grungy, the textural, and the bold. She use vibrant colors and builds layers with a variety of mediums including acrylic paint, texture pastes, gelatos, pen, fabrics, and found or vintage objects.
Her business is called Damsel of Distressed because she almost always creates with Tim Holtz Distress line of products (paints, spray stains, inks, wax crayons) which react uniquely with water, creating drips and flows that are not meant to be controlled.
Aside from traditional media, she also set intentions for every artwork and bathes each canvas in energy prior to beginning the artistic process. The result is an artwork created for a purpose and she believes her pieces find exactly who they are meant for.
She has won the Emerging Artist Award from both the Grand Forks Public Arts Commission and Red Wing Arts Association.
Her mural team, the Three Brushketeers completed large outdoor murals in the summers of 2022 and 2023 and she has created several murals for both businesses and private residences.
